Welcome to Vitamin G

Welcome to Vitamin G

Dec 31st 2020

You might have noticed there are more women playing golf now more than ever and we love it!

Golf has steadily seen higher participation of women the last two decades, and it is apparent if you just look on social media alone. There are dozens of instagram accounts dedicated to highlighting women who play and love golf, and more than ever, women are starting to feel welcomed in the world of golf. But just because progress has taken place, doesn’t mean efforts should come to a halt.

While I grew up around golf, it wasn’t until the age of 30 that I actually picked up the game. My husband Mark played golf for the first time at a bachelor party, and when he came home he thought it would be a fun way for us to connect and spend time together. I had played field hockey competitively, so transitioning into golf was somewhat easier for me, and when I started taking lessons in 2000, I was hooked, reminded by how much I love being competitive.

Seven years later, I turned my passion for golf into a business in called Golf4Her, an online pro-shop, filled with cute golf clothes and accessories. With my professional career working in marketing in small business and large Fortune 100 companies, I knew my skillset would allow me to create a sustaining business, and it would be based around something I love. So after struggling to find golf clothes that I actually wanted to wear, I saw an opportunity to reach women who loved to play golf, but also encountered shopping for golf clothes as a hassle.

When I started going to golf courses to put on trunk shows for women, some of the responses I received were less than welcoming. Complaints were made that the skirts were too short, that the sleeveless and collarless shirts were distasteful, and that essentially I wasn’t country club friendly enough in my offerings of apparel.

It was during those trunk shows I realized my target audience was not necessarily women who belonged to a country club, but women who wanted to go a public golf course and feel comfortable in clothing that they could wear from the course, to run errands in, or to grab drinks with friends. In my mind, I wanted to target the modern woman who had yet go to a golf course, but would be more willing to try the sport if she had viable options for clothing that were more contemporary and less stuffy. My hope is to provide my client base access to golf clothing that allows them to express their personal style. Through my business I have also witnessed women are inspired to play golf now because there is such a broad spectrum of apparel available now – and that gets them playing!

It has been eleven years since I launched, and over time I have learned so much about the golf business, and more importantly, about the women who desire to play golf but still feel reluctant to step out onto the course.

As a result, Vitamin G came life. For me, golf is the ultimate lifestyle sport and the women who play LOVE everything about it, from fashion, to travel, to the camaraderie. There is a great community of female golfers out there that share a lot of same interests and eager to discover more about themselves and how they can make a difference in the world around us. The mission of Vitamin-G is provide a place for women to share their stories, feel more comfortable in a generally male dominated environment, and take the journey with us to explore all the great things playing golf affords us, both personally and professionally.

In this blog you’ll discover informative topics and pieces to help you in your journey with golf, whether you’re a beginner or veteran to the game. More importantly though, you’ll develop a community with fellow golfers, and feel empowered by connecting with the women who also play.

Needless to say, I’m so excited that you’re joining me on my mission to spread the joy of golf. Getting more women on the course, and helping them feel comfortable only means developing more friendships and life enriching experiences.

So with a big warm smile, welcome to Vitamin G.
